10:51 am - Meisha Merlin Warehouse Some of you may be interested:
http://eugie.livejournal.com/364858.html
"To All You Book-loving Atlanta Locals:
I just got a note from Sean Wallace, Publisher/Editor with Prime Books/Wildside Press. It seems that SF/F publisher Meisha Merlin, which declared it was shutting down in November, has a rather large amount of stock (tens of thousands of books) in its Stone Mountain warehouse (1440 Kelton Drive, Stone Mountain) that needs to be rescued or it will all be destroyed/recycled.
Sean is renting a truck which can fit fifteen pallets, single-stacked, or thirty double-stacked, but there's no forklift available, only a pallet jack. So he has to fill the truck by hand. He'll be in town Tuesday and Wednesday (4/22 and 4/23) to load up, and he's asked me to spread the word that he's desperate for volunteers to help him. Anyone who volunteers can cart off any books they want that don't fit into the truck.
If you can help out or know of folks who might be able to, email Sean at: seanwallace@comcast.net "

08:16 am - FenCon Toastmaster Announcement FenCon is pleased to announce that Howard Waldrop will be Toastmaster at FenCon V in Dallas on October 3 - 5, 2008.
Howard is a Nebula award winning, World Fantasy award winning, and Hugo nominated writer.
Howard is also a Texas writer which fits in nicely with FenCon's theme of "Celebrating 50 years of SF conventions in Texas".
http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?Howard_Waldrop
http://www.sff.net/people/waldrop/intro.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Waldrop
"Waldrop's stories combine elements such as alternate history, American popular culture, the American South, old movies (and character actors), classical mythology, and rock 'n' roll music. His style is sometimes obscure or elliptical. The stories are often considered entertaining: Night of the Cooters is The War of the Worlds told from the perspective of a Texas sheriff (a homage to Slim Pickens); Heirs of the Perisphere involves robotic Disney characters waking up in the far future; Fin de Cyclé describes the Dreyfus affair from the perspective of bicycle enthusiasts."

09:26 am - How to Eat Well at a Convention http://www.wikihow.com/Eat-Well-at-a-Convention
"You know the feeling, or maybe you don't- sleepless, hyperactive and completely sick to your stomach at the same time. Most food at conventions and similar events isn't healthy in the least, but you can still follow the conventions of good health.
Steps
1. Drink water. Get a nice water bottle. Fill it every couple of hours. 2. Find the food sources! Not just the dealer's room; find a con suite, a snack table or any rooms with particularly charitable con-goers therein. Try and find a fridge if you're bringing your own food. Mark it on your maps. 3. Plan out a budget for purchased food. This isn't a major step, you just need to determine if you'll be leaving the con for a real meal. Don't spend more than 9 dollars a day on snack food or you'll not only go over budget... you'll die from sugar and fat before the con is over. 4. Find noodles, a veggie tray and/or fresh fruit somewhere. Take it with you if you can. 5. Stay sanitary. Wash your hands as often as possible (definitely after using the bathrooms, which are usually filthy). 6. If you're feeling upset or sleepless, make yourself some tea. If you don't like tea or it's too hot, wait until it's cold and down it in one gulp. It will help you calm down. 7. Indulge every once in awhile -- free candy is ok, just not for every meal."

02:45 pm - FenCon Feedback From the 2007 Chairman:
"I would like to ask everyone that was at FenCon this past weekend to think about areas we can improve for next year and send them to
fenconfeedback AT gmail DOT com
We will review them and get the information to the right departments.
We are honestly after constructive criticism here, so if you think that the registration table would have been better off on the third floor, then let us know. That doesn't mean we will move it, but we will consider it.
So please, send any suggestions to make FenCon better to
fenconfeedback AT gmail DOT com
We will keep the source for all comments confidential.
Thanks for your help and support.
